Lets eat Grandad.

or,

Let’s eat, Grandad.

How wonderful commas are. Potential life savers……

Here is a ‘Dear John’ letter where punctuation makes all the difference between love and hate:

Dear John,

I want a man who knows what love is all about you are generous kind and thoughtful people who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior you have ruined me for other men I yearn for you I have no feelings whatsoever when were apart I can be forever happy will you let me be yours

Gloria

Love:

Dear John,

I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous kind and thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we’re apart. I can be forever happy. Will you let me be yours?

Gloria

Hate:

Dear John,

I want a man who knows what love is.  All about you are generous, kind and thoughtful people who are not like you.  Admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me; for other men I yearn.  For you I have no feelings whatsoever. When we’re apart, I can be forever happy. Will you let me be!

Yours,

Gloria

So, in a world where we communicate more by written word than face to face, maybe it’s worth checking our punctuation if we really want to convey the intended meaning………………..
