The Importance of SKA part 3

“She has such a great attitude!” “The reason she never gets anywhere is her attitude.”

Or maybe my parents – “you will never get anywhere with that attitude!”

These statements/comments/excalmations  have a ring of truth behind them. Why then do some people appear to have a “good” attitude and some not? We can all leap to our amateur psychology and find a list of convincing reasons. Chances are it’s the way they have either programmed their own brain or the way they have had it programmed by outside influencers/influences.

Attitude on the other hand is not everything. It’s great when you have a good attitude in abundance providing you have something to use it with! Attitude that is not “channelled” soon evaporates  leaving a vacuum for apathy and boredom to seep in.

If you know someone with a really positive attitude but no skills or knowledge you will know exactly what I mean! Fortunately, if they manage to keep positive then they normally seek out the necessary skills and knowledge. Similarly , I have worked with people whose glass  is overflowing with knowledge and skills but they really cannot be bothered.Their attitude glass isn’t  half empty- they have put the glass down somewhere and cannot remember where they have left it……working with these people is a real challenge but so rewarding when  they find the glass again. I was with someone last week when they re-discovered their glass- amazing performance now because they have plenty of knowledge and the necessary skills!

For adult learners they have to want to do it- if they are unable to see the benefit of learning something new then their mindset or attitude is not switched on. Is yours?
