7 Intelligences- Body Physical

Posted by:

Hi everybody

The next intelligence I want to cover is Body Physical. Sometimes this is referred to as Bodily-Kinesthetic. The clue is definitely in the title whichever you prefer. It has to do with body movement. The potential to use your body, or parts of your body, to process information and learn. It is the ability to use mental abilities to coordinate bodily movements. Howard Gardner sees mental and physical activity as related.

People who possess a high amount of this intelligence generally learn better by getting up and moving about. They are often good at and enjoy sport, dance, constructing things and acting/performing. They often learn best by doing. Some believe that people with a high Body Physical intelligence operate on some form of “muscle memory”.

There is an element of Body Physical which relates to manual dexterity. So, if you were to undergo an operation you might want your surgeon to have a high level of this particular intelligence. A concert pianist may also have a high level of this.

Well, where does Body Physical fit in your personal mixture of intelligences? Is it in the top three? What are you doing to make the most of it?

If you consider it one of your bottom three then you have the ability to develop it further if you want to.

Next week I will take a look at Musical
