7 Intelligences- Intrapersonal

Posted by:

Well here is the last in this series of emails about Howard Gardner’s 7 Intelligences. This week I want to take a look at “Intrapersonal”.

People with a high level of this particular intelligence generally have a great capacity to understand themselves in terms of their motivations and feelings. They are comfortable spending time thinking and analysing. Time for reflection is paramount for someone with a high level of intrapersonal intelligence.

Other people may see them as introverts but that doesn’t necessarily ...

7 Intelligences – Interpersonal

Posted by:

Hi and welcome to the penultimate email on Howard Gardner’s Seven Intelligences. This week I’m looking at Interpersonal. The clue is in the title. People with high Interpersonal intelligence have a great ability to interact with other people and to empathise. It’s much deeper than just getting on well with others.

Someone with a high level of Interpersonal Intelligence could well be perceived as “extrovert” but may not see themselves this way. They tend to have the capacity to understand other ...

7 Intelligences- Musical

Posted by:

Hi there- here is my next article on Howard Gardner’s 7 Intelligences- this week as promised it’s the “Musical” intelligence.

This one does take a bit explaining as it has more to do with understanding and appreciating rhythm than music per se. There is certainly a strong element of listening and music as well. Someone who has a high level of musical-rhythmic intelligence displays greater sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones and music. They often have good “pitch” and may even have ...

7 Intelligences- Body Physical

Posted by:

Hi everybody

The next intelligence I want to cover is Body Physical. Sometimes this is referred to as Bodily-Kinesthetic. The clue is definitely in the title whichever you prefer. It has to do with body movement. The potential to use your body, or parts of your body, to process information and learn. It is the ability to use mental abilities to coordinate bodily movements. Howard Gardner sees mental and physical activity as related.

People who possess a high amount of this intelligence ...

7 Intelligences- Visual / Spatial

Posted by:

Hello and many thanks to those of you who came back to me after my post last week- great to hear from you. Today I’m continuing with Howard Gardner’s 7 intelligences and looking at Visual/Spatial.

This area has to do with vision and spatial judgment. People with strong visual/spatial intelligence are typically very good at visualising and mentally manipulating objects. They tend to have inbuilt “navigation” skills. They can be proficient at solving puzzles. They have a strong visual memory and ...

7 Intelligences- Logical / Mathematical

Posted by:

Hi and I hope you have had a great learning week. I received some fascinating feedback from you last week after my post on Linguistic intelligence.

As mentioned, this week I’m going to consider the Logical/Mathematical intelligence. No need for a dictionary definition for this one- it’s exactly as it says in the title! People with Logical/Mathematical intelligence are interested in patterns, categories, puzzles and their relationships. They are drawn to arithmetic problems, strategy games and experiments.

Logical-Mathematical intelligence consists of the ...

7 Intelligences- Linguistic

Posted by:

During all the time I have spent researching learning one of the key pieces of the jigsaw for me was Howard Gardner’s 7 Intelligences.

Following on from my post last week I want to look at the first of Howard Gardner’s 7 Intelligences- Linguistic. A dictionary definition will describe the word linguistic as “relating to language”. Certainly Howard Gardner chose this word because it encompasses language but he also mentions the love of words, vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar and syntax. Anyone ...

7 Intelligences

Posted by:

Howard Gardner first published his now famous articles on Seven Intelligences in 1983- Frames of Mind – The Theory of Multiple Intelligences.

He has consistently challenged the idea that intelligence can only be measured by using standard IQ tests.  He is a professor at Harvard and has continued to explore this area (his researchers have now “discovered” other Intelligences but I’m just going to stick with his original seven).

Howard Gardner initially formulated a list of seven intelligences. The first two, Linguistic ...
